- “We’re opening a bar and need a premises licence before we can trade.”
- “We want tables outside and the council says we need a pavement licence.”
- “Our new signage needs consent, and so does the change of use.”
Premises licences. New licences, variations and minor variations under the Licensing Act 2003: the application, the operating schedule, the licence plan drawn to the required standard, and the advertising and notices. Where residents or responsible authorities object, we prepare the noise and amenity case for the licensing hearing.
Pavement licences. Applications for tables and chairs on the highway, with the layout plan, clear widths and the supporting information the council asks for.
Advertisement consent. Signage, fascias and illuminated signs, often needed alongside planning for a new shopfront.
HMO licensing. Floor plans with room sizes and fire safety layout for mandatory and additional HMO licence applications, coordinated with planning where a change of use is needed.
Personal licences. Your designated premises supervisor needs a personal licence. We’ll tell you what’s needed and when, so it isn’t the thing that delays opening.
- A licensed-trade background: Greene King, Mitchells & Butlers, Marston’s, Whitbread.
- Licence plans that match the planning drawings and the fit-out.
- One programme for planning, licensing, building regulations and the build.
- Experience presenting the case at licensing hearings.
Do we need planning and a licence?
Often both. Planning controls the use of the building; the premises licence controls the sale of alcohol, entertainment and late-night refreshment. They are separate decisions with separate conditions, so they need to be prepared together.
How long does a premises licence take?
There is a 28-day consultation period. If there are no objections, the licence can be granted shortly after. With objections, a hearing is usually needed.
Can you deal with objections?
Yes. We prepare the operating schedule and noise and amenity case to answer them, and can attend the hearing with you.
Do you apply for personal licences?
The personal licence is for an individual and needs an accredited qualification. We’ll point your DPS to the right course and handle the premises side.
